General Information
The Flower Mound Band is the largest student organization at Flower Mound High school comprised of 374 students. There are 4 concert bands that meet during the school day. Each band is team-taught, with multiple directors assisting throughout each rehearsal. Private lessons are available for any student during their band class for a fee. In addition to band classes, there are multiple opportunities for participation in other individual and ensemble performances including All-Region/All-State, Solo & Ensemble, jazz band, musical pit orchestra, as well as a Flower Mound Concerto Competition and Flower Mound Ensemble Competition.
All students in LISD participate in marching band as part of the district curriculum. There are 2 marching bands at Flower Mound High School: the Competition Band and the Jaguar Band. The Jaguar Band is a non-varsity marching band designed to help those still developing their musical and marching skills. Students in the Jaguar Band combine with the Competition Band to perform at every football game. Members of the Competition Band are selected through an adjudication process and compete at both local, UIL and Bands of America events. The Competition Band has been a BOA Grand Nationals Finalist in 2014, 2017, and 2021, and has been the Champion at the San Antonio Super Regional in 2015, 2016, and 2018. At the UIL State Marching Contest, the Competition Band has been a finalist since 2014 and earned the Gold Medal in 2016, Silver Medal in 2018, and Bronze Medal in 2020.
Concert Ensembles
Wind Symphony
Wind Symphony is considered the first performing ensemble in the band program and is open to students in all four grades. In order to be a member of this group, a student must demonstrate the highest level of musical maturity, technical proficiency, and commitment to rehearsal and practice time. A student must seriously pursue individual goals on their instrument as well as working diligently toward ensemble goals. Auditioning for all-region band and playing a solo at the Lewisville I.S.D. solo and ensemble contest is required. Private lessons are strongly encouraged.
Symphonic Band
Symphonic Band is considered the second performing ensemble and is also comprised of students in all four grades. To be a member of this group, a student must demonstrate a high level of musical maturity, technical proficiency, and commitment to rehearsal and practice time. Auditioning for all-region band and playing a solo at the Lewisville I.S.D. solo and ensemble competition is required. Private lessons are strongly encouraged.
Concert Band
Concert Band is our third band and is comprised of students in all four grades. To be a member of this group, a student must demonstrate musical maturity, technical proficiency, and commitment to rehearsal and practice time. Preparing portions of the all-region band audition music is required. Playing a solo at the Lewisville I.S.D. solo and ensemble competition is required. Private lessons are strongly encouraged.
Varsity Band
Varsity is our fourth band and is comprised of students in all four grades. To be a member of this group, a student must demonstrate musical maturity, technical proficiency, and commitment to rehearsal and practice time. Preparing portions of the all-region band audition music is not required but strongly encouraged. Students in Varsity Band will be encouraged to participate in the Lewisville I.S.D. solo and ensemble competition. Private lessons are strongly encouraged.
Marching Ensembles
Competition Band
The Competition Band is the top marching ensemble at FMHS consisting of approximately 200 members in all four grades. Personnel for the Competition Band is selected during band camp each Fall. The Competition Band performs at halftime of all football games. Additionally, the Competition Band regularly participates in local marching festivals and Bands of America marching band championships. Membership in either the Competition Band or Jaguar Band is required for all FMHS band members.
Jaguar Band
The Jaguar Band is comprised of members from all four grades. The Jaguar Band is designed for those who are still developing their marching band playing skills. The Jaguar Band is also for those band members who have a FMHS athletic conflict with the Competition Band schedule. Membership in either the Competition Band or Jaguar Band is required for all FMHS band members.
Drumline
The Drumline meets as a separate class during the fall semester. In addition to participation with either the Competition or Jaguar bands, this ensemble works together towards separate competitive festivals. All FMHS percussionists will be a part of this class during the fall semester and then moved to one of the concert bands for the remainder of the year
Colorguard/Winterguard
The Flower Mound High School Colorguard and Winterguard, consisting of students from all four high school grade levels, train as athletes to perfect their equipment skills with dance movement and marching band drills to perform as artists during Fall football game halftime shows and competitions as well as indoor gymnasium Spring performances and competitions.
